Gaurav Garg

Founding Partner

Gaurav Garg is a Founding Partner of Wing. Gaurav is a board member at several private technology companies, including Cohesity, Shape Security, and Instart Logic. He incubated and helped build FireEye (IPO 2013), Ruckus Wireless (IPO 2012), and Jasper (Acquired 2016) into significant businesses, serving as a board member at each for more than ten years. Gaurav has served on the boards of several other companies, including some that staged successful exits via IPOs or acquisitions such as NetScaler (Acquired 2005) and MobileIron (IPO 2014). He also worked extensively with, and co-sponsored investments in, Aruba (IPO 2007) and RingCentral (IPO 2013). 

Gaurav was a partner at Sequoia Capital from 2001 to 2010, and a Special Limited Partner at the firm from 2010 to 2012. Prior to joining Sequoia, he founded Redback Networks in 1996 (IPO 1999), and served as a board member and Senior Vice President of Product Management. Prior to Redback Networks, he held various engineering positions at SynOptics and Bay Networks.

Gaurav holds a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering and a BS in Computer Science, all from Washington University in St. Louis.

Jeff Schneble

Partner

Jeff Schneble is a Partner at Wing and is a board member at Oak Labs and Drip Capital. He has worked with multiple entrepreneurs and teams to build successful technology companies. These companies include GoDaddy, Mercury Payment Systems, Vantage Data Centers, and Fathom. Jeff was an operating executive at Silver Lake Partners from 2011-2015.

Jeff holds a BS in Physics from the University of Washington, a PhD in Semiconductor Physics from the University of Cambridge, and an MBA from Harvard University. Jeff’s PhD thesis was on quantum computation using electrons as quantum bits. 

Peter Wagner

Founding Partner

Peter Wagner is a Founding Partner of Wing. He has led investments in dozens of early stage companies, more than 25 of which have gone on to complete IPO’s or successful acquisitions. These companies include Nimble Storage, Fusion-io, Redback Networks, Riverbed, Arrowpoint Communications, Infinera, Peribit, Topspin, Omneon, and Opower, to name a few. He currently works with a private company portfolio that includes Blue Jeans Network, Cumulus Networks, Moogsoft, Qwilt, and Pepperdata, among others.

Before founding Wing, Peter helped lead Accel Partners for 15 years as Managing Partner. Prior to joining Accel, Peter was a line manager at Silicon Graphics, responsible for several generations of digital media and graphics workstation products. Peter previously worked with McKinsey and Company, and began his career as a physicist working in nuclear fusion research and aerospace.

Peter holds an A.B. in Physics from Harvard College, summa cum laude, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.

John Donnelly

Partner, Go-To-Market

Before joining Wing, John was Senior Vice President of Sales at MobileIron, where he led the company’s global revenue growth and sales operations. Prior to MobileIron, he was Vice President of Sales at Symantec, which he joined when it acquired Vontu in 2007. At Vontu, John led the worldwide sales operation, and established the company as the top provider of enterprise data loss protection solutions.

Over the course of his career, John has also grown several startup companies from early stage to exit via IPO or acquisition. They include Talking Blocks, Kana Communications, Connectify, and NetGravity. He began his career in sales at Wang Laboratories, and then Parametric Technology.

John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Communications from Boston College.

Martin Giles

Partner, Intellectual Capital

Martin Giles is a partner at Wing charged with developing the firm’s intellectual capital. He works with his colleagues to develop deep and actionable insights in core areas of interest to Wing and its portfolio companies.

Prior to Wing, Martin was a journalist with The Economist Newspaper and led the paper’s coverage of Silicon Valley. During his 26-year career with The Economist, he also spent a decade as an operating executive running various global businesses, and acquiring and managing startups.

Martin is a senior industry fellow at The University of California, Irvine’s Center for Digital Transformation and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Council on The Future of Electronics. He holds a masters degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and an executive MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth Graduate School of Business

Jay Kidd

Partner, Market Acceleration

Jay Kidd is a partner at Wing charged with helping portfolio companies swiftly discover product / market fit. He has held senior executive roles in technology leadership, go-to-market strategy development and general management, and has extensive, cross-functional experience in storage, networking, software and high-performance systems.

Before joining Wing, Jay was the CTO of NetApp and also a member of the executive staff. He was previously CMO at the company. Prior to NetApp, Jay held the positions of CTO and Vice-President of Product Management at Brocade. At both NetApp and Brocade, he played a leading role in developing and implementing the companies’ product road maps, and in assuring product / market fit. Jay has also held executive and leadership roles at Omneon Video Networks, Multigen, SGI and HP.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University.

Hilary Strain

Chief Financial Officer

Hilary Strain is Wing’s Chief Financial Officer. She has been in the venture capital industry for over 15 years. She was previously with Alta Partners from 1998 to 2013 as Alta’s Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for all finance, accounting, investor relations, compliance, and firm administration.

Prior to Alta, Hilary was a manager with Arthur Andersen’s Silicon Valley office, providing audit and business advisory services to public and private companies primarily in the high-technology sector.

Hilary served as a Founding Board Member of the West Coast Chapter of the Private Equity CFO Association and is currently a member of the National Venture Capital Association CFO Task Force.

She is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting Magna Cum Laude from Pepperdine University.

Christopher Guidroz

Designer-in-Residence

Christopher Guidroz works closely with Wing’s portfolio companies to help them develop applications that are attractive, engaging and user-friendly. Specializing in greenfield projects, he can quickly take a project from concept to visualization, helping startups move rapidly to market. This addresses one of the most critical needs of young firms and provides them with an invaluable competitive edge.

For the past 20 years, Chris has been an Interface Architect and UI Designer leading efforts to define, design and deploy global web portals and rich internet applications throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He has pioneered the use of Rapid Application Prototyping to accelerate his clients’ projects.

Chris, who holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi, has conducted many successful engagements with firms in a range of industries, including enterprise software, consumer electronics, finance, telecoms, healthcare, customer service and gaming. Among the companies he has worked with are Philips Electronics, Dell, MTV Europe and UPS Logistics, as well as numerous firms within the Wing portfolio.
